Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget and arms control. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan many times to summits and debate topics including the Iran Contra scandal.
